Days 2&3: Sunrise in Salvador

We arrived in Salvador just after 6am local time, feeling pretty knackered but, we are here! Only thing was that American Airlines lost our buggy en route, but we're getting it back shortly. It's hot and sticky here, weird coming from one season into another, but we can live with that! The journey from the airport to the hotel took an hour but I remember seeing people all the way, going places, hanging around on street corners, chatting, the place has a buzz, even early in the morning. We're staying in a place which overlooks the best beach in Salvador, and is run by an American dude, who is a dead ringer for The Hoff (David Hasselhoff) and his Brazilian wife, they are absolutely lovely, and they have a beautiful 15 month old daughter called Gabriella, so Luis has a friend already. Looking out of the window we can see the beach, with the sea stretching away into the distance, and the last 2 mornings Luis' first word has been 'playa'. He never says that in Clapton.

So, we've been out exploring a bit, but have spent the last 2 afternoons parked on the beach, eating queijo dipped in oregano and honey (amazing), drinking from coconuts, sipping the local brew, catching some rays and cooling off in the sea. Luis has had a blast and is charming the pants off everyone, but the people are lovely here, warm and with a smile. We've had people trying to sell us things, of course, but with a polite thanks but no thanks they generally smile and move on.

No problems getting your 5 a day here, the selection of fruit is to die for, and the juices, awww, the juices.....(Homer Simpson drooling moment....). Better be off, the beach is calling, then to Pelourinho, ciao for now!
