This stuff is amazing. I wasn't 100% convinced the first time I tried it, but having found the best bowl of Acai in Itacare (made by Luis and his wife at a little kiosk, see below), I'm now hooked on it, craving it morning, noon and night. It's made from the pulp of the fruit Acai, mixed with syrup of Guanara (we think), is semi-frozen, then topped with slices of banana, granola and drizzled with honey. Magic. I managed nearly 750ml in Barra Grande in one sitting on Tuesday night.
We left our big bags at Casa Za Za to head to Barra Grande for the night on Tuesday, taking a bus then an hour and a half boat ride out towards the tip of the peninsula. We were told this place is beautiful, tucked away with no tarmac roads to get you there, but arriving by boat was the best option. We wandered around the sandy streets and bagged ourselves a pousada near the beach. Shortly after, we headed to the beach and walked along until we came to this point which had a bar, chairs, sunloungers and a stunning view. Luis was desperate to get in the water, although it takes him a few minutes to build up his courage and let go of me, sticking to me like a limpit. Shortly after Luis hooked up with a wee girl who was playing in the sand and they started running around. Now, this was a holiday romance if ever you saw one, running around, hand in hand, until the moment when the girl departed with her folks, Luis waving frantically going 'adios, bye bye.......!'. The folks on the beach were laughing and cooing and taking as many photos as we were! There was a bit of cloud come sunset otherwise that would have been an awesome sight, still couldn't complain. Another bonus was that we bumped into Sasha and Samadi from Piracanga, we never got to say goodbye to them so was great to see them, their house and say goodbye.
Maria's mentioned the breakfasts here in Brazil, they are bloody amazing, the best we've had in the world. The one in Barra Grande on Wednesday morning was summit else, fruits, breads, cakes, eggs, juices, coffee, the works, there was enough on our table to last week, but we had a go. It rained pretty much all day so spoiled our plans to visit the natural pools over the other side of the peninsula and the beach, so we caught an earlier boat back. It was nice heading back to Itacare, we really got a feel for the place and heading back to Casa Za Za was like going back to an old friends house. It rained on Thursday as well, so after some errands and a dip in the pool, which included Luis swimming on his own with armbands for the first time, and me fishing out a dead frog, bloated and perfectly intact, we chilled out then headed out at night for some scran and a wander. T'was time to say goodbye to Itacare and head south.
We were up before the birds yesterday, our bus leaving Itacare for Ilheus at just after 5am. From there, we took another bus to Porto Seguro, then a short taxi ride, short ferry ride then another bus before reaching Trancoso. Took about 7 hours in total, but went as smooth as anything and was cheap as chips. We're now in Pousada Quarto Crescente, Trancoso, which is unbelievable: beautiful rooms and setting, gardens and everything immaculate, lovely people, amazing breakfast (again), pool and a dog called chocolate, all for 80 Reais per night. We met this girl when we were waiting for the last bus, and she looked familiar and it turned out that she had been sat next to us on the beach in Barra Grande, and had taken photos of Luis and the wee girl! So, we told her and her mate where we were staying so they joined us here which is cool.
We went for a wander last night and there are two parts round about where we are, and the border lies just about at our pousada. On one side the old town, with kids playing football in the square, music blaring from shops, motorbikes zipping up and down and plenty of Skol being sipped, and on the other, the resort-y side, with super cute boutique shops and cafes and restaurants, and at the end the whitewashed church overlooking the bay, There was a full moon last night and it made for the most amazing sight, illuminating the sea below.
Right, going to get ready for the beach, needs must!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bo!
Barry, Maria and Luis x
